Dental and Mouth Injury Attorney
What Are Mouth and Dental Injuries?
An injury to the head may not only be to the skull and brain area, but
also to the jaw, mouth area and teeth. A lip may be torn or severely cut;
the mouth or tongue may get cut or torn; a tooth may crack, chip, break,
be knocked out, or jam into the gum. All of it starts with an injury in
the mouth area.
Since the teeth are the closest to the plane of the face, the teeth are
often the first parts of the face to be affected by injury. But not all
injuries to the teeth are as simple as a broken or cracked tooth.
Dental Injuries Include:
- Loose Tooth (subluxation) knocked loose)
- Cracked or Broken Tooth
- Tooth Rammed Deeper Into Tooth Socket (intrusion)
- Tooth knocked out (avulsion)
- Tissue Laceration
- Root Fracture
- Enamel Fracture
- Enamel Infraction
Mouth injuries, aside from jaw injuries typically involve trauma to the
teeth — but not always. Some of the injuries involve the inside
of the mouth unrelated to dental issues.
They can include:
- Tongue Injury
- Tonsil lacerations
- Soft Palate lacerations
- Gum Injury
- Lip Trauma
Although the teeth are the most obvious targets in a mouth injury, other
injuries can include jaws, lips, tongue, gums, soft palate, roof of the
mouth, and tonsils. Since there are myriad blood vessels inside the mouth,
these type of injuries tend to bleed profusely when injured. So injuries
usually look much worse than they actually are.
But once a medical professional is consulted, there still be serious damage
that needs professional attention, up to and including surgery.
Should there be a tooth or teeth broken, a replacement tooth may be fitted.
Likewise, a cracked or chipped tooth can be repaired. And an injury, although
with torn skin and loose flapping tissue, looks acute, these afflictions
can usually be easily fixed. The flap of skin is a frequent source of
injury, but, again, it is not a major trauma to the mouth.
But an injury to the roof of the mouth, the back of the throat, or to the
tonsils is a much more difficult injury to fix.
Losing a tooth, being unable to eat or talk correctly, or even losing
the ability to open the mouth properly, an injury to the mouth or teeth
