Zofran Lawsuit Attorney
Serving Nationwide
Zofran was introduced in the early 1990s to treat nausea and vomiting experienced
by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. One decade later, the FDA
issued a statement that explained a 32 milligram intravenous dose could
cause life-threatening heart rhythm disorders. Although this dosage was
recalled, the 0.15 milligram intravenous regime and oral doses are still
given to chemo patients.
Other Problems with Zofran
In 2012, GlaxoSmithKline was sued and pleaded guilty to criminal fraud
charges. This manufacturer was forced to pay billions of dollars on grounds
the company wrongfully introduced the medication as a remedy for morning
sickness. Studies linked Zofran to a heightened risk of birth defects,
especially congenital heart problems and cleft palates. Allegations were
made against GlaxoSmithKline, which stated the manufacturer was aware
of the possible problems and continued to provide kickbacks to doctors
who prescribed the drug for this purpose.
Who is Responsible for Damages?
Drug manufacturers have a duty to release medications that help the public
without posing severe health risks and side effects. Court documents prove
Glaxo was aware of the “unreasonable risk of harm” caused
by Zofran, especially since it passes through the placenta of a pregnant
woman. However, the manufacturer heavily promoted the drug as a cure for
morning sickness. There is also evidence that Zofran causes QT prolongation
and Torsade de Pointes, two lethal forms of heart arrhythmia. Other negative
side effects include irregular heartbeat, dizziness, and shortness of breath.
If you or a loved one has been negatively affected by Zofran, you deserve
fair compensation. GlaxoSmithKline must be held responsible for its negligent
behavior. Large companies cannot get away with causing harm to innocent victims.
