Four Years In Prison for Man Guilty of Vehicular Homicide

Posted By Personal Injury Lawyer || 10-Aug-2010

A Marengo, Ohio man was sentenced to four years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide in Knox County Common Pleas Court last month.

Lester A. Moore, 37, was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in the death of Connie Fyffe. Moore was sentenced to a four-year prison term, and his driver's license was suspended for 10 years. He was also ordered to pay $18,306 in restitution to the crime victim's family.

Reports say that on the evening of July 4, 2009, Moore was operating a motorcycle westbound on Sparta Road near Fredericktown, Ohio, with Connie Fyffe, 38, as his passenger. Moore failed to negotiate a curve, slid off the road and overturned the motorcycle. Both he and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. Fyffe died as the result of her injuries in the motorcycle accident on August 1.

Tests were reportedly conducted at the Ohio State Highway Patrol's crime lab, reportedly revealing that Moore had a blood alcohol level of 0.128 at the time of the crash.

In tragic cases such as this, families of the victims are left with little consolation at the incarceration of the responsible driver. Compensation may still be available. The Doan Law Firm, P.C. has extensive experience in auto-related fatality litigation and may be able to help.

After an accident, the responsible party's insurance company may try to reduce the claim amount. Commonly, insurance adjusters are trained to get information from the injured to assist in reducing the claim. Though some insurers are less guilty of this practice than others, it is important to realize that insurance companies are profit-oriented corporations and reducing claims results in increased profits for shareholders. This can create a situation for the injured in which they are offered a settlement that does not truly reflect the damages suffered. If you accept this settlement, you lose the ability to get more money should your injuries require further medical treatments. It is critical that victims get legal assistance in any personal injury case, and The Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly for your rights.
