Man Falls to His Death From Chairlift

Posted By Houston Personal Injury Attorney || 9-Jan-2011

A 19-year-old Stateline Nevada man recently after falling from a chairlift at Heavenly Mountain Resort, reports say.

The man, Ryan Moore, who had moved to Stateline two years ago from Santa Ynez, CA was a snowboarder who had bought his season pass for snowboarding a few days earlier. Moore fell from the chairlift at about 11:30 a.m. after leaning forward to massage a leg cramp, reports say. The restraining bar on the chairlift was not fully latched and he fell 30 feet to his death in an area not covered in soft snow.

Moore was accompanied on the chairlift by another rider, reports say. Although emergency crews from Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department responded to the scene, Moore had already suffered major trauma from the fall and lifesaving measures were unsuccessful. Moore was pronounced dead.

Although Heavenly encourages riders to use the restraining bar on its lifts, many riders do not. Reports say the resort would evaluate possible changes to its safety policies after the investigation.

After an accident, the responsible party's insurance company may try to reduce the claim amount. Commonly, insurance adjusters are trained to get information from the injured to assist in reducing the claim. Though some insurers are less guilty of this practice than others, it is important to realize that insurance companies are profit-oriented corporations and reducing claims results in increased profits for shareholders. This can create a situation for the injured in which they are offered a settlement that does not truly reflect the damages suffered. If you accept this settlement, you lose the ability to get more money should your injuries require further medical treatments. It is critical that victims get legal assistance in any personal injury case, and The Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly for your rights.
