Study Says Energy Drinks Should Be Labeled

Posted By Houston Personal Injury Attorney || 17-Jun-2011

A study by Johns Hopkins University found that some energy drinks contain so much caffeine and stimulants that they should also carry a warning label about the potential risks of consuming the beverages.

The beverages, which are mostly powered by excessive caffeine, have been reported to cause difficulty sleeping, rapid heart rate, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, depression and, in rare cases, death. The risks rise if a person has an existing erratic heartbeat or other heart issues.

The drinks reportedly carry anywhere from 50 to 505 milligrams of caffeine – as mush as ten times the amount of a normal soft drink, reports say -- but are unregulated by the Food and Drug Administration, which call them dietary supplements, leaving companies free to either limit or disclose the caffeine amount in each serving.

The largest of all energy drinks are Red Bull and Monster Energy, which account for 95 percent of energy drink sales- part of a $5.4 billion industry, reports say

After an accident, the responsible party's insurance company may try to reduce the claim amount. Commonly, insurance adjusters are trained to get information from the injured to assist in reducing the claim. Though some insurers are less guilty of this practice than others, it is important to realize that insurance companies are profit-oriented corporations and reducing claims results in increased profits for shareholders. This can create a situation for the injured in which they are offered a settlement that does not truly reflect the damages suffered. If you accept this settlement, you lose the ability to get more money should your injuries require further medical treatments. It is critical that victims get legal assistance in any personal injury case, and The Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly for your rights.
