Apparent Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Motorcyclist

Posted By Houston Personal Injury Attorney || 31-May-2011

Late last month Austin Police Officers responded to an injury crash in the 9100 block FM 969 Road in Austin to find that a car had collided with a motorcycle and fled the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 1994 Honda motorcycle was in the right lane as a tan Buick was in the left lane traveling eastbound on FM 969. In the 9100 block of FM 969, the tan Buick drifted into the motorcycle’s lane. The vehicles collided.

The Honda motorcycle then crashed into the guardrail along the south curb line and the motorcycle rider was thrown clear. The driver of the Buick continued failed to stop and render assistance.

The driver of the motorcycle, Fredrick Dixon, 38, was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge where he was pronounced deceased.

Dixon was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and alcohol is not suspected at this time. The police are asking for the public’s assistance in the search for the driver of the Buick. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of this driver is asked to call 9-1-1, or APD Vehicular

Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8164. This case remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

After an accident, the responsible party's insurance company may try to reduce the claim amount. Commonly, insurance adjusters are trained to get information from the injured to assist in reducing the claim. Though some insurers are less guilty of this practice than others, it is important to realize that insurance companies are profit-oriented corporations and reducing claims results in increased profits for shareholders. This can create a situation for the injured in which they are offered a settlement that does not truly reflect the damages suffered. If you accept this settlement, you lose the ability to get more money should your injuries require further medical treatments. It is critical that victims get legal assistance in any personal injury case, and The Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly for your rights.
