Tainted Triad Wipes Used at Veterans Hospitals

Posted By Houston Personal Injury Attorney || 20-May-2011

Reports say that possibly 25-percent of Veterans Health Administration medical centers and its outpatient mail order pharmacy may have used defective alcohol prep pads – this despite a large and reasonably well-publicized U.S. recall of the products.

The swabs, which were reportedly manufactured by Triad Group, issued several large-scale recalls for tainted alcohol swabs, alcohol swabsticks, prep pads, and other products sold under various brand names due to concerns for potential contamination with bacteria. The worries involve two specific bacteria, Bacillus Cereus and Elizabethkingia Meningoseptica, bacteria evidently associated with flesh eating bacteria disease..

According to reports, the original recall has been enlarged, but it still took the VA three months after the first recall to advise patients about the problem. Several patients have been involved, and the U.S. Congress is now involved in the inquiry.

Families of veterans expect a certain level of care as they protect the country. And those in service to the country need to know their rights are being protected. After an accident, the responsible party's insurance company may try to reduce the claim amount. Commonly, insurance adjusters are trained to get information from the injured to assist in reducing the claim. Though some insurers are less guilty of this practice than others, it is important to realize that insurance companies are profit-oriented corporations and reducing claims results in increased profits for shareholders. This can create a situation for the injured in which they are offered a settlement that does not truly reflect the damages suffered. If you accept this settlement, you lose the ability to get more money should your injuries require further medical treatments. It is critical that victims get legal assistance in any personal injury case, and The Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly for your rights.
