Illinois Teenagers hit by Train

An 18-year-old Lake Forest, Illinois man was killed and a teenage female companion was injured when they were struck by an Amtrak train in suburban Chicago, say reports.

The pair were allegedly trespassing on railroad tracks just north of the Lake Forest, Ill., railroad stop when the train accident happened, reports say. The victims were reportedly hit by Amtrak Hiawatha Train No. 339, which was traveling from Chicago to Milwaukee.

Reports say the 18-year-old victim was a Korean foreign exchange student who attended Lake Forest Academy; the female victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill., where she was reportedly listed in critical but stable condition.

The accident didn’t happen at a crossing, but on a vacant stretch of track that was reportedly off-limits to pedestrians.
