Charges Filed After Fatal Traffic Accident on East Freeway

Intoxication manslaughter charges were filed against a driver arrested involved in a fatal traffic accident at 12900 East Freeway, also known as Interstate Highway 10 East, at about 5:25 a.m. on Jan. 1st.

An initial accident involved a black Chevrolet Impala, which was traveling eastbound on the East Freeway at a high rate of speed, which struck the back of a Dodge truck that had seven passengers. The drivers of both vehicles lost control and stopped on the freeway.

After that, a female passenger got out of the truck and crossed the freeway to check on the driver of the Impala, which had come to a rest facing north on the freeway entrance ramp. At that point, a black Dodge Charger struck the Impala, ejecting the driver of the Impala and struck the female standing next to the Impala. The female pedestrian was killed and the driver of the Impala was transported to LBJ Hospital with minor injuries.

Michael Joseph Dove, the driver of the Charger, was charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 176th State District Court. The female victim, 28, whose name was not released pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, was pronounced dead at the scene, HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J.
