Student Dies in School Bus Accident

Seventeen-year-old Vikas Parikh, a student at Greater Hartford Academy of Mathematics and Science, was among 16 students on a bus headed to a robotics competition in Farmington when it crashed through a guard rail on Interstate 84, killing the junior from Rocky Hill, CT. Another student remains in serious condition.

The Hartford school has offered counseling to students; the town of Rocky Hill has done the same for local students and their families.

Six of the students on the bus were among the injured taken to three area hospitals including Connecticut Children's Medical Center. The bus driver, a teacher and 15 students are all among those who were injured in Saturday's crash. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
