Last of Five Houston Victims Drowning Victims Found

The body of Hallie Jenkins, a 4-year-old girl missing since her father’s car plunged into a north Houston drainage ditch that killed four other children, has been found, according to reports.

The body was discovered along Greens Bayou near Beltway 8, and officials believe it to be the one missing soul from the accident, since the other children’s bodies had already been recovered.

Houston’s Chanton B. Jenkins, Hallie’s father, was arrested and charged recently with four counts of intoxication manslaughter. He tested at more than twice the legal limit of blood-alcohol level more than two hours after the accident that claimed the lives of the children.

Jenkins crashed the car during heavy rainstorms while he was talking on his cellular phone. After losing control of his Lincoln sedan the vehicle landed in a drainage ditch filled with nine feet of water, reports say.

Although none of the children in the car was buckled in, according to reports, the children were still unable to escape the water – even though the car’s rear and passenger windows had shattered, allowing Jenkins and an adult passenger and one child to escape, reports say.

The wreck killed Dreton Thompson, 11, and his brother, Malik Barlow, 7; Devin Jenkins, 4; and Karrinton Jenkins, 1. Child Protective Services is investigating the deaths of all five children. Jenkins could face 80 years in prison if convicted on all charges, reports say.
