Illinois Nursing Home Lawsuit Sued

The family of a nursing home resident has filed suit after they say negligent care provided by the home led to a death of their family member. Carol Kiefer, executor of the estate of Doris I. Schaeperkoetter, is reportedly the party behind the suit.

The complaint alleges that the victim was given improper care while at the Lincoln Home, a long term care facility that houses about 150 residents. The complaint claims that poor nursing care caused the resident to suffer dehydration, sepsis, and hypoxia, and that the woman's medical condition became worse as she lived there, eventually leading to her death. The suit is asking for more than $200,000 in damages plus court costs, reports say.

The family feels the owners of the nursing home, a company reportedly named as Weiss Management Group LLC, failed to follow proper rules for the care of the resident. They also say a state nursing Home Care Act was violated. The woman in the case had lived at the facility for about a year and a half.
