Two Hurt in Gas Explosion

A gas line explosion near Easton, Kansas and Highway 192 injured two gas workers earlier this spring when the pipe they were replacing leaked and somehow a fire sparked.

The two workers, employed by ATMOS Energy, were on a back-hoe trailer, which caught fire, burning them.

The gas flow was stopped and the fire was extinguished about 90 minutes after it started. The workers were transported Leavenworth hospital. One man was treated and released; the other suffered more severe injuries, and was transferred to a Kansas burn unit.

Easton residents were without gas until about midnight, and anther ATMOS crew was on the scene repairing the damage almost immediately, reports say.
