Train Accident Kills Student

An Amtrak train hit and killed a teenager as she was on her way to school, after which service was suspended for some time in the Baltimore area as an investigation searched for caused of the accident. The incident delayed trains all along the US Northeast corridor.

The victim has been reportedly identified as 14-year-old Ann Marie Stickle of Middle River. Reports say she had been walking along the tracks with a friend when she was hit from behind. The friend was not injured.

Pedestrians often misjudge the distance of trains while standing at road level - which is why there are so many pedestrian/train accidents. People wandering on the tracks often have much less time to move from the tracks than they think.

In the event of a train injury, there is possible compensatory relief for the families of the victims. 1. After an accident, the responsible party's insurance company may try to reduce the claim amount. Commonly, insurance adjusters are trained to get information from the injured to assist in reducing the claim. Though some insurers are less guilty of this practice than others, it is important to realize that insurance companies are profit-oriented corporations and reducing claims results in increased profits for shareholders. This can create a situation for the injured in which they are offered a settlement that does not truly reflect the damages suffered. If you accept this settlement, you lose the ability to get more money should your injuries require further medical treatments. It is critical that victims get legal assistance in any personal injury case, and The Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly for your rights.
