Trolley Conductor Discovered Texting While Driving

A Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority conductor, a 24-year-old transgender man with 22 months on the job, was texting his girlfriend when his trolley rear-ended another trolley, reports say.

The accident caused 49 injuries. All were taken to the hospital and none were considered life-threatening, reports say. But passengers were rendered bloody and shaken after the collision occurred. The trolley had enough kinetic energy to jolt the second trolley, which was parked at a red light, about 100 feet forward. Both trolleys derailed and each had significant damage, reports say.

The operator of the trolley that hit the second trolley suffered a broken wrist and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, reports say.  Although 49 were hospitalized, another 75 walked away on their own, some with injuries; others without. Response from emergency crews was reported at about 120 people.
