The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning for Hem-o-Lok Ligating Clips, which are manufactured by Weck for living kidney donors. The clips keep the process of living donors — and recipients – from experiencing the potentially fatal problems associated with blood vessels not being properly closed after surgery. Reports say that possibly 25-percent of Veterans Health Administration medical centers and its outpatient mail order pharmacy may have used defective alcohol prep pads – this despite a large and reasonably well-publicized U.S. recall of the products. Derrick Miller, 33, driving a 2002 Black Lincoln Navigator was traveling southbound in the 5800 block of Ed Bluestein in Austin at a high rate of speed when the Lincoln left the roadway, struck the guardrail on the west curb line, and rolled several times.
