‘Devastating’ Explosion at Tennessee Plant Leaves Multiple Dead, Dozens Still Missing

On Friday morning, a powerful explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems in Hickman County left multiple people dead and at least 19 others missing.

After assessing the plant, the scene was described by Humphreys County Sheriff, Chris Davis, as one of total destruction. Fighting back tears, he stated, “There’s nothing to describe. It’s gone. It’s the most devastating scene I’ve seen in my career.”

What We Know So Far

Just before 8 a.m., emergency crews rushed to the scene as the blast was first reported at Accurate Energetic Systems, a facility that manufactures explosives. Officials confirmed multiple deaths and say at least 19 employees are still missing. The shockwave was felt miles away by nearby residents. One local stated, “We were just drinking coffee when we heard a massive boom. It shook the whole house.”

As emergency workers are continuing to respond, authorities are urging the public to stay clear of the surrounding area. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has closed Tanyard Branch Road north of I-40 to allow access for rescue crews and ensure public safety.

The small Tennessee community of Bucksnort is left in mourning as the investigation continues. Officials say locating those still missing and providing support to grieving families remains their priority. Later this afternoon, Sheriff Davis is expected to hold another press conference where he is expected to provide updates on the ongoing recovery efforts and the number of confirmed fatalities.
