Suspect Charged in Fatal Houston Traffic Accident

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 9400 block of Westheimer early last month.

The suspect, Miguel A. Zepeta-Rodriguez, 20, is charged with criminally negligent homicide in State District Court, accused in the death of Yolanda Lopez Martinez, 54, of Houston.

Zepeta-Rodriguez was driving a gray Ford Explorer westbound on Westheimer and approaching Westerland when his vehicle suddenly crossed the center median. The Ford then struck a maroon Plymouth Voyager, driven by Ms. Martinez, head on. Zepeta-Rodriguez was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in stable condition with broken bones. Zepeta-Rodriguez appeared to have suffered a seizure that led to the crash.

A preliminary investigation determined alcohol was not a factor in this incident. Further investigation determined Zepeta-Rodriguez was at fault in this accident and charges were filed against him. Martinez, who was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, died.
