Cruise Passenger Jailed

A cruise passenger ended up in jail in Cozumel during a port call, reports say, after he and his wife and four children, ages 17 to 25, rented a Jeep to explore beaches on the island.

The incident turned ugly when he turned off the highway onto a beach and collided with a motorcycle he never saw coming. Two men flew off the motorcycle. Burleson waited for an ambulance with the injured men.

The man was taken into custody by police, but the police demanded that he paid cash for lost wages to settle with the injured men. U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe’s office was called and eventually, after paying some $6,500 in fines, fees and bribes, the man was released. Reports also say that the two injured men have been in four other similar accidents involving American tourists.
